William Edwin Ruwe
ASSOCIATE Ed Ruwe brings a rare combination of impassioned empathy and clear objectivity to each case he handles. It is his balance of both emotional commitment and reasoned logic that allows him to build effective strategies to aggressively defend his clients' rights. Through careful examination of all the salient points of a case, Ed is able to clearly see not only how to best represent a client's needs but also to make sure every conceivable approach the opposition might raise to try and sway opinion has been measured and defeated before stepping into a negotiation or courtroom. Though Ed passionately works to make sure his client's position prevails, it is his clear and calm determination of purpose that allows him to stay focused in what can be volatile and highly emotional situations. Early on, Ed realized a deep desire to serve both his fellow man and country. He joined the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) in 1996 and has been an active member ever since. He has been involved in many of the organization's efforts, which include search and rescue, disaster relief support, mentoring teenagers, as well as the on-going public education of aerospace history, its future and its goals. He has risen to the rank of Squadron Commander and is a staunch supporter of the CAP's mission. After entering law school in 2005, Ed went to work as a legal intern for the newly formed Los Padres Forest Watch. Charged with protecting and restoring almost two million acres of natural forest land for the 1.8 million people who visit each year, the group's need for volunteers to help them in their charter is enormous. Ed more than rose to the challenge and for the following year assisted in researching and gathering requisite legal information in a variety of land-use law areas. These included easements, mineral rights, federal depredation permit requirements and applying for document acquisition under the Federal Freedom of Information Act. Shortly before completing his internship, Ed applied for and was awarded an internship with the Superior Court of California for the Honorable Clifford Anderson III. This afforded him the opportunity to witness a wide variety of criminal and civil matters from the objective standpoint of the bench. Though primarily working to research and gather relevant case law and information, Ed was given valuable instruction on the complexity and intricacies of a system that had great impact on the lives of those who came through its courtroom doors. This helped solidify Ed's conviction to pursue a path that would allow him to help others who might not otherwise be able to stand up for their rights. Currently Ed is focusing his abilities in the field of Business Law and Litigation where he hopes to help developing and established companies of every size stay on track in order to achieve their individual goals. As commerce and trade, especially that of small businesses, form the backbone of our nation, Ed feels he is doing his part to rebuild a strong, independent America that can continue to lead the world in the free marketplace. Ed received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California Santa Barbara and his Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Barbara College of Law.
